Washington Discovers Pardons Are Complicated When the Other Team Uses Them

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Washington entered full philosophical collapse this week after President Donald Trump granted clemency to 30 people, forcing both parties to reopen dusty binders titled THINGS WE SUPPORT ONLY WHEN OUR GUY DOES THEM, sources have confirmed.

Democrats immediately reached for years of speeches about redemption, second chances, and criminal-justice reform.

Then someone whispered:

“Trump signed it.”

The binders slammed shut.

Republicans, meanwhile, celebrated presidential mercy before quietly hiding several old clips explaining that executive clemency was dangerously abused whenever a Democrat held the pen.

One cable-news producer unveiled the official decision tree:

Pardon helps someone we like?

Compassion.

Pardon helps someone they like?

Corruption.

Same constitutional power?

Please stop being difficult.

Emory Jones’ name on the list only made things worse.

Criminal-justice advocates praised second chances.

Partisan operatives demanded outrage.

Talk-radio hosts checked which party was currently supposed to believe in forgiveness.

One analyst suggested reviewing every pardon individually based on the facts and circumstances.

Both parties stared at him.

“Get out.”

By sunset, Democrats had run out of things to say about President Trump’s 30 pardons.

They couldn’t claim the pardons hadn’t happened, and they couldn’t quite decide whether to condemn the power itself or merely its current occupant.

For several tense minutes, they stood before the cameras like mimes—finally quiet.

Shockingly, their silence accomplished more in 20 minutes than their usual commentary had in three years.

Historians confirmed that both discoveries would expire immediately after the next presidential election.

As of press time, Washington remained united on one principle:
Executive power is outrageous, dangerous, compassionate, necessary, corrupt, and heroic, depending entirely on who signed the paperwork.
