Secretary of State Marco Rubio shut down the Global Engagement Center (GEC) for a second time this week after discovering its staff still operating clandestinely out of a forgotten basement office in the Capitol, sources have confirmed.
Despite a formal closure and reassignment of funds, Rubio reportedly followed the scent of government coffee and glowing laptop screens to uncover a full-blown disinformation task force operating under the radar—complete with name badges, whiteboards, and a “Do Not Disturb” sign taped to the door.
“They were still at it—fact-checking memes, labeling jokes as extremism, and trying to cancel freedom of speech with a dry-erase marker,” Rubio said while wheeling out the last desktop PC. “We told them to shut it down, not go underground.”
When asked for comment, one GEC employee claimed, “We’re not spreading propaganda, we’re enhancing narrative integrity.”
As of press time, the GEC staff was reportedly seen attempting to rebrand as a book club.
