NEW YORK CITY — Mayor Zohran Mamdani unveiled a revolutionary city grocery plan Tuesday that economists immediately recognized as the company store with better branding, sources have confirmed.
“Totally different,” Mamdani explained.
“The company store was owned by the people controlling your job and housing. This one is owned by the government.”
The room went silent.
Then three interns applauded.
City officials promised cheaper groceries by removing unnecessary expenses such as profit, competition, rent pressure, and eventually every private store unable to compete with taxpayer subsidies.
When the neighborhood grocer across the street closed, City Hall celebrated.
“See?” an adviser said.
“Consumers clearly prefer us.”
The program quickly expanded.
NYC Grocery handles food.
NYC Apartments handles housing.
NYC Transit handles transportation.
NYC Wallet holds whatever remains after taxes.
NYC Opinion explains why this is freedom.
Residents soon received Freedom Points redeemable for eggs, tofu, and one avocado per fiscal quarter.
A refugee from socialism tried telling Mamdani and friends this had all been tried before.
Officials assured him those countries simply lacked proper consultants.
Mamdani then unveiled phase two: every New Yorker gets a government-issued 1996 Geo Metro.
Same color.
Same options.
Top speed determined by passenger weight.
As of press time, New Yorkers remained free to shop anywhere they wanted, provided the city had not already put it out of business.

Limited view of what Socialism is about caused this low voter IQ, most living off their parents and still wearing diapers. The world is free they think.
Spot on
The Germans created the Nationalist Socialism which is the Nazi’s platform.
So all people who support Socialism are called Nazi’s now?
Saint Peter don’t you call me cause I can’t go
I owe my soul to the government store.
Why should I as a shopper that needs food for my kids have to be responsible for a store’s profit, why should I have to pay for their rent and overhead, that is the cost of doing business. Should be borne by the business. And criticizing living with parents, is it not smart to save my money and let the older people pay from their years of employment? They will die sooner and will not need money then. Why should I have to wait for an inheritance? Such selfish people who cannot share with everyone. Embarrassed now? I certainly hope.
WOW???? No concept of finances. Rent like TAXES are part of overhead. Overhead Has to be paid. Out of markup on any product being sold. This is the cost of bringing product or food to market. If Government pays for it. There is also a reduced tax base.Raising taxes for the rest of us.
Mental midget or sarcasm?
Thanks Jordin, I agree with what you said. I hope also that the wanna be socialists understand this too.
“Socialism is great until you run out of other peoples money” Maggie Thatcher once said I believe.
