LAS VEGAS — Progressive activists across the country are calling for the immediate release of a repeat offender this week after a Las Vegas sheriff refused a judge’s order and instead chose to prioritize what officials described as “public safety,” sources have confirmed.
The suspect, whose criminal record includes prison time for drug offenses and involuntary manslaughter, was ordered released before Sheriff Kevin McMahill reportedly made the controversial decision to do his job.
“This is deeply troubling,” said one activist.
“If we start locking up sinners, how is Las Vegas supposed to continue identifying as Sin City?”
The sheriff’s refusal sparked outrage among left-leaning leaders, who say detaining repeat offenders undermines both criminal justice reform and the city’s long-standing cultural brand.
“You can’t have Sin City without sin,” one progressive organizer explained.
“At that point it’s just ‘City,’ and frankly that’s not what tourists are paying for.”
Activists also warned that holding criminals accountable could create unrealistic expectations for behavior.
“Everyone deserves a second chance,” one advocate said.
“And a third. And a fourth. Eventually you have to trust people to keep making the same mistakes indefinitely.”
Meanwhile, Nevada officials defended the sheriff’s actions as a matter of public safety, a concept critics say has been “dramatically over-prioritized.”
As of press time, activists were reportedly proposing a compromise that would allow repeat offenders to remain free as long as they contribute to maintaining Las Vegas’ authentic “Sin City experience.”

I did hear the judge is looking to hold the sheriff in contempt. Not a bit surprised. Why on earth would we want criminals in jail? Sanctuary cities and states are letting the illegals back on the street. What’s the difference?
Send them to California to make up for all the billionaires leaving. Gavin and the Democrats will welcome them to compensate for the voter roll losses caused by the wokes fleeing the tax burden.
Put the criminal and the judge in the same cell. Leave them in there for a year with nothing but bread and water. Tell them that if either one of them so much as spits on the sidewalk again they’re both back in the same cell again. Only this time it’s for life.
I don’t know about life but I agree, they should share a cell
