A federal appeals court ruled that the National Guard is under federal control, not a state militia, siding with President Trump in a clash with California, sources have confirmed.
The decision, sparked by Trump’s deployment of 4,000 Guard troops to quell L.A.’s anti-ICE riots, rejected Gov.
Gavin Newsom’s claim that it violated state sovereignty.

Citing Title 10, the court affirmed the president’s power to federalize the Guard when states can’t secure federal operations.

Newsom’s team vowed to appeal, but the ruling strengthens Trump’s hand.
As of press time, Trump was tweeting plans to rename the Guard “MAGA Militia” for flair.
