North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis, nearing his 65th birthday, reportedly told President Trump, “You ain’t taking my Medicaid away!” during a heated Capitol Hill showdown, sources have confirmed.
The outburst came as Trump pushed his “Big Beautiful Bill,” which includes steep Medicaid cuts to fund tax breaks, threatening coverage for 600,000 Tar Heels.
Tillis, one of three GOP senators opposing the bill, circulated a chart warning of “tens of billions” in losses for North Carolina’s hospitals and rural communities.
“I’m almost 65—Medicaid’s my safety net too!” he quipped, citing personal stakes.
Posts on X show MAGA fans branding Tillis a “RINO” for defying Trump, while Democrats cheer his stand but mock his late rebellion.
Critics note Tillis previously backed Medicaid trims, making his flip a 2026 election play.
As of press time, Tillis is rallying GOP rebels, vowing to block Trump’s cuts, while Trump’s team dubs him “Traitor Thom” on Truth Social.

It’s all about the votes. He could care less about those that are really down and out and need assistance who are American citizens. He and the other RINOs need to be primaried but somehow keep getting voted back in.
Whomever wrote the article about Tom Tillis is as illiterate as Tillis.. (1) Congress has their own beautiful medical coverage, and (2) Medicaid has noting to do with age. That would be Medicare not the terribly abused Medicaid.
Medicare not Medicaid; American citizens whom reach 65 years of age and whom have paid into Social Security throughout their working lifetimes are eligible to receive government funded healthcare.Part A which is basic healthcare is free but part B which covers inpatient surgeries,hospitalization & aftercare requires a premium of which you can elect to have deducted from your monthly Social Security benefit payment or you can search on the market for supplemental coverage or one of the many Advantage plans.
Medicaid is for poor & disabled American citizens whom worked and paid into Social Security before becoming disabled or were born in a physical/ mental condition which prevented them from the ability to secure and maintain gainful employment.
Tillis is actually just a flaming liberal wearing a strap-on, it just isn’t the same. He should just be his natural liberal self and be done with it.
