Cubs Fan Becomes America’s Grandpa After Smack Heard Round The World

CHICAGO — A Chicago Cubs fan became America’s unofficial grandfather this week after a viral video showed him confronting a younger fan who allegedly refused to stand for the National Anthem, prompting half the internet to scream “violence” while the other half asked if he was available for birthday parties, sources have confirmed.

The moment, now known by baseball historians as “The Smack Heard Round The World,” immediately divided the nation between people horrified by the incident and people quietly wondering whether Grandpa had any open appointments before school starts.

“No one condones violence,” said one Cubs fan.

“But also, have you seen kids lately? Some of them need a firm talking-to, a history lesson, and possibly a folding chair lecture from a man who still owns a lawn mower with a pull cord.”

DSA members reportedly condemned the fan as a dangerous extremist, mostly because he represented their worst nightmare:

An older American with boundaries, patriotism, and no interest in hearing a 19-year-old explain oppression during the third inning.

Sources say the Cubs have not publicly endorsed the fan, though insiders claim he was quietly named “Official Grandpa of Wrigley Field” and given authority to glare at anyone vaping during the anthem.

By Friday, parents across America were allegedly requesting his services for graduations, family cookouts, and “just one conversation with my son about respect.”

As of press time, the fan had clarified he was not angry, just disappointed, which experts confirmed is still the most devastating punishment known to mankind.

Same here! Just wondering, does Grampa really have 2 left hands?
Pretty sure that it’s an artist with dyslexia.
As far as I was told, it was nonconfrontational, and the young man bought grampa a beer, all was good!

There is a 1990s era movie”The Congressman,” that addresses the issue of failure to show “proper” respect to the Pledge of Allegiance. The gist of the story is that expected norms, like rote standing for the National Anthem, is not a true indicator of respect or patriotism.
The boy was most likely was engrossed in his cell phone and the Grandpa is lucky he hasn’t been charged with misdemeanor assault.( And before I get “crucified“ for this apology post, I’m a retired veteran who stands for the Anthem.)

      Tuna,
You are correct in the literal sense…
I think this incident has captured our imaginations in the figurative sense too though.
The young man represents the clueless faction of our current youth who
although never serving our country, nor ever worked a day in their lives, believe that we
should just hand our entire society over to them on a silver plater. They believe that through their inexperience and naivity they can create a nervana over night, even though the rest of us have been working slowly but surely towards achieving it since the founding of our nation.
The Grandpa represents the experienced, the seasoned, the ones who have already worked hard for an entire life time, who have already served. The ones who really understand what it takes to make and maintain the greatest Country on earth.
In that figurative sense I have no problem with Grandpa “bitch slapping” the kid !
I think at our current juncture as a Nation we may need more of it !
In the end, in our current political environment , I truly hope that experience and cunning will
win out over youth and skill !

Joe M: the character building organizations, churches, schools, and civic organizations are on life support in this country. Until the young start showing interest beyond the stupid stuff they see on their cell phones, we’ll continue to see things like this Cubs game.

Good for this patriotic Cubs fan ! I gave a good ole Marine ass chewing to three teenagers at a high school football game that were laughing and talking during the playing of our national anthem.

If one cannot stand and show respect for a 2 minute playing of our national anthem, then they don’t deserve the privilege of enjoying life in these United States.

I believe every able bodied young person that graduates high school should be required to serve 2 years in our armed forces. Also, 6 months of those Two years should be spent overseas in a country that is run by a totalitarian government! I assure you, these unpatriotic 18 year olds would return home as patriotic 20 year old disciplined citizens that would be proud to live in the United States of America!

I agree with you MJB but only because the rest of our character forming organizations, like schools, churches and civic organizations have deteriorated and are almost on life support. I’ll go one step further, it’s disgusting that there is a minuscule percentage of Congress and the White House that have served in the military. They make decisions to send people into combat without ever facing it themselves.

We need new laws because we have lost common sense, No socialist, communist, islamist, muslims, atheists were ever allowed in any government or public office, state and federal, we fought to keep these people and the perverted out of America, many died for this Country, so now we have to make Laws to keep these immoral perverted non American people out of our lives out of our government, and we need a law you have to be a 3rd. Generation American Citizen, to even try to run for a government or public job, office, and stop allowing birthright now, and retroactive 30 years

The disrespectful brat child is merely repeating what the USA pro-sports teams did.
    He is following the leaders.
Squatting when our Stars and Stripes is raised, our National Anthem sang.
One of the reasons that our pro sports have lost a large percentage of followers.

    Go for it Grandpa.
Where were, are his parents? Hopefully hanging their heads in shame, to have raised such a pile of dung.
