NEW YORK — Facing a growing $7 billion budget hole, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a bold new fiscal strategy this week: charging residents for all the things he previously promised would be free, sources have confirmed.
During his campaign, Mamdani famously pledged lower rent, free buses, and free parking for everyday New Yorkers.
City officials now say those promises remain technically true — in spirit.
“We never said the free part would last forever,” a spokesperson explained.
“Think of it more as a limited-time promotional offer.”
Among the latest ideas under consideration are steep increases in parking fees, higher property taxes, and a variety of new city surcharges designed to fill the multibillion-dollar gap left after wealthy taxpayers reportedly fled the city in record numbers.
“Turns out when you threaten to tax people into extinction, some of them move,” said one budget analyst.
Residents say the situation has become increasingly confusing.
“First he promised free buses,” said one Brooklyn commuter.
“Now my subway card costs more than my gym membership.”
City officials insist the new price hikes are necessary to preserve the progressive vision that helped create the budget hole in the first place.
Meanwhile, several former donors have reportedly relocated to Florida, where they are continuing the radical practice of earning money without immediately being taxed into oblivion.
As of press time, Mamdani was reportedly unveiling Phase Two of his economic plan: charging residents a small fee to hear his next promise

In this HOME there is no sorrow for New Yorkers. They voted this IDIOT into office and now they can live with the results.
Agree 100%
New Yorkers more than most should have known that if it sounded too good to be true that it wasn’t, But were so hard up for “FREE” that they would’ve voted for any idiot like the one they now regret putting in office.
That’s right!
When Marxist/Islamism meets the financial realities of basic economics…
New Yorkers pride themselves in being savvy. ( pronounced, “street smart” )
How they fell for his absolute bullshit hook, line and sinker is absolutely
behind me ! Take a good look everyone… Next election cycle, DO NOT let this happen
to YOUR town, YOUR city, YOUR state or YOUR Country !
The voters should have remembered the old saying, ‘ If something sounds to good to be true, it usually is ‘, They got played by a Snake Oil Peddler, his cure all medicine to balance the books, was all fake and he knew he was selling everyone a ‘Lemon’ that’s now leaving a very bad taste in everyone’s mouth! Recall! Recall! Recall him! He lied to everyone that voted for him! The old saying ‘Be careful for what you wish for’ comes to mind here! If it sounds to good to be true it usually is! Now he’s playing the word game with everyone! This is exactly what these communist do! Right out of the communist hand book!
New York is getting what they deserve. They continue to vote for the dumbest most crooked politicians in the Democratic Party. When your looking for something for nothing this is what happens. It’s unfortunate that the majority of the voters are so stupid they shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
YOU voted for this idiot and now you will see what he really stands for. WISE UP, do your research, look into his background., That dumb smile on his face hides a multitude of lies.
100% agreed!
Mandami is the canary in the coal mine for anyone who thinks voting for any progressive Democrat is a good idea
I didn’t think so many people were STUPID, but I guess I was wrong. When you want everything free, you have to pay a higher price.
I live in Va. I was wrong about the amount of stupid people in the northern part of this state as well!
Trump said Maddami would ruin the city. In the famous almost words of CommieNewsNumnuts “he was mostly correct”.
NO……. he wasn’t mostly correct…………..HE WAS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mamdami should be run outta town on a hot rail
If only we had an education system that actually educated. History should teach us something; socialism, communism or Marxism absolutely does NOT work, and is responsible for millions of deaths. Even the Pilgrims tried it their first year in Plymouth and found that it did not work and almost starved to death. Check out the histories of Albania, or Armenia or Turkey or the rest of Europe and Asia and Afica, check out Cuba and Central and South America. The only place not ruined by this “progressive” idea is Antarctica – maybe because penguins have more sense. Time to purge all “learning centers” (or as it is spelled in Minnesota “Learing Center”) – and that includes K-12 as well as “higher education”. Get rid of the propagandists and have “educators” screened and tested.
Additional cost increases on stuff that was free: to correct the wrongs of racism against Black, Brown, and Indigenous people, these new price increase only apply to Whites and Zionists.
The city of New York does a lot to guarantee clean air, so now there will be a charge for breathing air, of $10 a day, $50/day if you have and income exceeding $200,000/year (new definition of billionaires).
It costs a lot of money to maintain the sidewalks, a meagre tax, only 10 cents/step.
Views are expensive, $1 a view, $2 to look at the Empire State Building.
$100 fee to walk in Central Park.
$1000 fee to express your opinion, unless it is in the glorification of the prophet Mamdami and his wife.
All the stupid’s who voted for him.
I grew up in New York State, but moved down South more than 30 years ago. I moved to go to school; intending to return, instead, I found employment in the South and stayed there; as a Christian, I trusted God that I was where He wanted me. I am very glad I did not return to New York. I am glad I married and raised my family in the South; I kept abreast of what was going on in New York state and of course, NYC. Overall, the political environment was pitiful; sadly, as was pointed out. Folk in BLUE states have a tendency to almost always keep voting in those who ‘walk all over them’ with bloviating promises of improvement and saving money (e.g. NJ and VA). It seems the worst offenders were those from multimillionaire families (a late former Governor and former vice president). Amazing how these “leaders” are so willing to keep digging deeper into their constituents’ pockets, without coming up with a more prudent fiscal solution(s). You all are right: New Yorkers made their bed; however, they will NOT get the opportunity to get even a PITIFUL night’s sleep in it (if they can keep their living spaces). Impeachment, recall, are probably two of the most promising ways to change the executive landscape of the city, that has been deteriorating for the last 20 years. Praying for them. Thank you. Proverbs 14, v 34 & 2 Chronicles 7, v 14
I thought New Yorkers were so “street smart”. You could see this idiot coming a mile away with his shit eating grin. Well, now they’re stuck with him unless they recall him. Will they be smart enough to do that?
When and if Maddami leaves NYC, those liberals in Vermont would elect him as Governor in a heart beat.
