Democrats celebrated their election wins by swearing in 70 blue balloons after discovering that a House majority comes with fewer powers than the party planner had advertised, sources have confirmed.
The mix-up began when a parliamentarian explained that overriding President Trump’s veto takes two thirds of those voting in both chambers. With everyone voting, that’s 290 in the House and 67 in the Senate.
A Democratic aide looked up at the ballroom ceiling.
“How many of those are from Pennsylvania?”
Within minutes, staff had assigned the balloons districts, committee seats, and three fully staffed constituent offices.
One balloon got a leadership post after floating to the front of the room and staying there.
This morning, Trump said there were plenty of ways to work with the newly elected Democrats.
Time stood still at Democratic headquarters. An aide tried “Trump Refuses to Rule Out Cooperation,” read it back, and quietly closed his laptop.
The silence ended when the gentleman from suburban Philadelphia drifted into a chandelier and popped.
Staff called it the strongest response they’d had all morning.
The balloon vendor, meanwhile, collected his check.
“I kept the helium in the truck until the deposit cleared.”
As of press time, Congress had entered a two-year stalemate over whether the gentleman from Pennsylvania should lie in state or be swept up with the confetti.
