NEW YORK — After spending the early part of his press conference blaming “Republicans, systemic oppression, voter IDs , capitalism, and probably Staten Island” for several IEDs reportedly being thrown near Gracie Mansion, Mamdani used the remainder of his podium time to address the growing controversy surrounding his wife allegedly liking pro–October 7 posts online, sources confirmed.
According to Mamdani, the situation has been “wildly misunderstood by people who still believe a social media like means approval.”
“A like is simply digital compassion,” Mamdani explained calmly.
“It’s about recognizing that even terrorists have feelings, hopes, dreams, and occasionally very strong opinions about Israel.”
Progressive activists quickly rallied behind the explanation, noting that refusing to engage with extremist content online can be harmful to the broader goal of “inclusive dialogue.”
“One of the biggest problems in America right now is the lack of empathy for people celebrating violence,” said one Brooklyn activist while sipping ethically sourced oat foam from a mason jar.
