A local mailbox is being pushed nearly past the point of structural integrity due to the large amount of politically themed junk mail it’s been receiving lately, a concerned owner has confirmed.
“Look at that son of a bitch, it’s gonna blow,” said Dalton Moore, about his mailbox. “That thing’s been out there since we moved here back in ‘06. It’s been through many elections and seen a lot of pointless mail, but I don’t think it can handle this much longer. Look at the way the wood is starting to splinter. Poor thing’s not gonna last much longer.”
Sadly, this is hardly an isolated incident this election year.
“It’s never been this bad,” said the local mailman, Wes Henning, about the amount of political junk mail being sent out this year. “I feel bad cramming all this bullshit in there day after day, but I don’t want to get fired. It weighs on my consciousness at night, sure, but I tell myself I’m just doing my job. That helps me feel a little better.”
As of press time, experts have urged voters in swing states to check their mail every single day, or else risk serious injury to their backs.
I agree, there is too much political physical mail. There is also nearly too much political email as well.
The USPS is getting worse by the day, but I guess the political mailings help pay the bills to some degree. Used to be that a Priority Mail envelope would be delivered in no more than three days…nowadays it’s more like eight days!
We should be able to “opt out” of receiving junk/advertising mail at home or our offices!
If it is not First Class we do not need to receive it if we choose.
If the full price of 1st class or above is paid on the mail, then deliver it, but not the junk advertising/political stuff in bulk mail.
I pick up my mail every day and it goes in the garbage. I remove my name and address and, I don’t even open it. All these politicians want is your hard earn money. The ones I support are the ones am voting for and not more than $10.00.
I was issued a summons because my new mailbox allows all contents to slide right through and out onto the ground in the ditch behind my mailbox. Apparently, the tree huggers don’t approve of my recycling technique.
I average about 20 emails a day and 4 junk mail pieces a day, all soliciting political donations. That does not count the solicitations seeking money for causes I don’t care to support and don’t trust them to be legitimate. To make matters worse, many are starting to come in as text messages, jamming that method of communication up.
Almost all that I get in the mail is junk mail. For the local election the political mail was just crazy. Email was insane. I got 47 in 1 week from the Dems. Then I read where they have to follow the unsubscibe. I did that and it worked. I got 1 from the Rep and I unsubscribed. It worked. So at least one thing is good.
