The NBA offseason began with a tragedy this week, as two big game hunters mistakenly shot and killed beloved Chicago Bulls mascot Benny the Bull, sources have confirmed..

“This is just horrible,” said local Chicago Bulls fan Chuck Gilbert. “First we trade away Alex Caruso for Josh Giddey, just an absolutely horrible trade. And now big game hunters have struck down the mascot that’s been with us since the late ‘60s. It’s been a rough few years for this franchise, for sure.”

The men responsible for the death of Benny the Bull expressed mixed feelings about their recent hunt.

“I saw the size of that thing and I just got so excited I pulled the trigger,” said longtime hunter Ronnie Wayne. “I can’t believe I killed Benny. I got my picture taken with the guy on my eighth birthday. I feel horrible. Oh well, I better still stuff him and use the meat. No reason to waste it.”

As of press time, Wayne and his hunting buddies had tracked the biggest lion they’d ever seen north to Detroit.

What a dam shame that ‘guys’ get such a thrill out of killing the innocent and defenseless. They should all
take their guns and kill each other instead.

Patricia: You need to commune with a bull next time you go in heat. You might have more respect for who “innocent and defenseless” actually means to a bull in rut.

I truly hope that the comments such as you made are as much satire/sarcasm as the articles on this site. If not the United States of America has hit new lows in education.

      1. Cows live 15=20 years. The OLDEST recorded verified age for a cow was 48 years 9 months. This cow was supposedly around in the 1960’s as the mascot of the Chicago Bulls. We will say it was born in 1968, a year to full growth, allowing it to become mascot in 1969. That puts the bull a6 54 years old. It would be the age record holder not whatever bovine has the record.

      2. Every time you eat a meat an animal is killed. They do not use meat of a animal that just falls over and dies of old age. It is not safe to eat. There is no way to tell for sure if the animal just finally died or if there was some form of disease. And there are disease organisms that can take temperatures that are very high. It is why medical instruments are no longer sterilized in autoclaves. Some organisms that are contagious can take being cooked at temperatures greater than in a boiling pressure cooker.

      3. If you are 100% vegetarian, I still have to ask. You do know they have shown that plants do respond to pain and even trauma to other plants they are just in the area of. Further plants die much much slower than animals do, so when you are eating a piece of kale or lettuce, you are eating a still living FEELING (as in detect pain) piece of a creature. I am sorry but the only way you and those you care about can continue to live is through the killing and consumption of living things.

Learn sarcasm/satire or go watch reruns of Captain Kangaroo or Mr Rogers Neighborhood.

How did they not know who this bull was. I am sure he was in a certain field. Were they
that drunk? I don’t believe they did not know who the bull was. This is terrible and I think
they need to be held accountable for this terrible act.

Tragic mistake but understandable. In that moment, sighting a trophy winning animal, your common sense goes out the window.

To kill God’s magnificent species of any kind is a selfish act of barbarism. Learn to use your gift of THINK 3 or more times before committing a final act of death depriving other alive humans so they can appreciate GOD’s beauty of “creation”. Shame on you.

Were they hunting where they were no suppose to be or did Benny get onto legal hunting grounds
I’m a hunter who kills for food and although this is a tragedy for the team and fans the hunter is doing the right thing by processing the meat for food and he said he was going to have it mounted so I think it would be a grand jester for him to donate it back to the team for display.

Where was the bull anyway? Was he out out WILD in the woods!! Benny should have been kept on a private farm with fenced pastures and a barn. NO game hunters would have shot him! Whoever was responsible for taking care of Benny caused this accident! Or did it really happen? Sounds like a FAKE story!

Disgusted. I remember hearing about a woman shot in her own backyard hanging laundry as she had white gloves on-hunters in the distance thought she was a deer-shot & killed her. People so gleeful to kill a living thing. Yes, lots people kill for food, lots eat meat but some of these hunter’s especially the wealthy ones going to Africa fir FUN like the little twerp dentist Walter Palmer who shot protected lion Cecil. are just miserable wastes of life. I hope there is appropriate punishment!

For my first point a bull is a mail and a cow is a female, so the person telling how long a cow lives shows how much he doesn’t know. They are all cattle, but never is a cow a bull. Also, I grew up in an area where there is hunting. Many big city “hunters” do not even know how to hunt. They get home with spoiled meat caused by points like putting the dead animal on the hood of a vehicle where there is heat, and they wonder why there is such a bad taste to their meat. Hunting is used to control the population of certain animals. Also, I don’t like to hunt, but there are so many who get such a kick out of killing animals. Many times they kill animals that nobody would eat just to kill them. Once on our land a man hunting antelope shot a coyote. I let it be known that hunting for food is part of the food chain for humans as most of us eat meat, but I told the crowd that I felt like making they man eat the coyote he killed for no reason.

Second comment: When I was in high school an American Indian young lady was shot by a hunter as she was wearing a leather jacket. This was in Wyoming. There must have been a hunting area on a Reservation. Also in Wyoming a few men were trailing horses. (Sheep are herded. Cattle and horses are trailed.) One of the men all of a sudden started shooting the horses. He said he just got excited out of control, and didn’t realize they were horses. ???????? The owner happened to be in the area and heard the shots. He came up to the group and said the wanted $1,000.00 for each horse and the man paid him. I remember it was something like 12 horses. That didn’t bring the horses back, but I imagine it did teach the shooter a lesson and told him how much he didn’t know.

The big game hunters were found not guilty of any crime, because they used handguns to take out the mascot. In Chicago, it is not a crime unless you use a pistol smaller than .25 caliber.
