New York City — Progressive lawmakers in New York and New Jersey are reportedly working overtime on a proposal that would force residents fleeing blue states to surrender a portion of their home sale profits to “the states they abandoned,” sources have confirmed.
The legislation, led by Zohran Mamdani and Mikie Sherrill, is being pitched under the slogan “You left, you share — it’s only fair.”
Insiders say the so-called Exit Tax aims to refill state coffers now that so many with a job, a pulse, or a 401(k) have fled for Florida and Texas.
Critics call it poetic irony: the same Democrats who chased wealth away are now chasing moving trucks with clipboards.
