1949: WWII Tank That Got Lost on the Way to the Philippines Shows up Eight Years Late

“Oh crap, did we miss the war?” asked General Phillip Arthur of the 194th Tank Battalion, after arriving some 96 months late to one of World War II’s earliest tank skirmishes. Arthur reportedly strayed off of the intended path during the onset of the war and was too stubborn to ask for directions until the summer of 1949. He was presented a Medal of Honor for his (attempted) service.

Are you sure that wasnt General Walz ?

  2. Doug Corrigan Jr. says:

Is that the same tank that Michael Dukakis “drove” in a foto op back in 1988, making people think he was better equipped to occupy a child’s bounce house than real armaments?

    Cool looking tank !

I love the artist rendering of the tank, great colors. Is there a story here?

You trumpets have lost your minds!

  6. Steve Eisenberg says:

The artist reminds of the guy who did those folding back covers on Mad magazine. Same style. You’d fold it on the dotted line and a whole different picture would show up. Very clever.

    Very appropriate title: Fake History.
Some wires were crossed because there were tank battalions present when the Philippines were attacked by Nippon in WW2 and one was from my stomping grounds in Monterey County, Calif. The survivors included Tommy Hicks of Greenfield, Calif who contributed to this story see link. They were captured by Japanese.

I’d like to know how it can have two treads on one set of wheels. There are clearly two sets of tracks coming off the return roller.

It’s a rendering of the M1T3, 875 Hp Detroit diesel, 94 mm cannon jap killer. This one looks like it has the flame thrower option.

That tank is too modern for WWII!

Seem stop be more of a case of desertion that being lost. The MOH should not have have been awarded.
