1987: U.S. Open Bans Guns During Tournament Play

After years of outcry from activists and tennis players that weren’t skilled at shooting, The United States Tennis Association banned the use of guns in their annual championship tournament, changing the sport forever. “You think [John] McEnroe would’ve won three years in a row if he wasn’t able to shoot at me the whole time?” asked several time runner-up Björn Borg at the time. “Fat chance!”
