El Salvador President Nayib Bukele reportedly offered to shut down the country’s massive CECOT prison immediately after Hillary Clinton labeled it “brutal,” on the single condition that a progressive-run location volunteer to receive every single inmate sources have confirmed
Bukele clarified the proposal was rooted in cooperation and compassion, explaining that if critics truly believe the prison is inhumane, then surely they would welcome the opportunity to provide better accommodations themselves.
He stressed the offer applied to everyone, including gang leaders, violent offenders, and anyone previously described as a “political prisoner” on cable news.
Clinton reportedly paused to seek clarification, asking aides whether “everyone” included individuals who might interfere with brunch reservations, property values, or scheduled MSNBC appearances.
Sources say she expressed concern that such a move could negatively impact the aesthetic balance of progressive coastal communities.
The proposed relocation site, Martha’s Vineyard, was selected for its long-standing reputation as a welcoming sanctuary, at least in theory.
Local leaders reportedly asked whether the inmates would arrive gradually, with documentaries, or all at once, with consequences.
Progressive activists praised the idea of prison reform in principle, while quietly insisting the reform take place somewhere else.
As of press time, Bukele said the offer still stands and noted he would accept any location with matching enthusiasm and fewer press conferences.
