NEW YORK — New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani reportedly urged residents to set their thermostats to 78 degrees during the latest heat wave, assuring them that perspiration is simply another opportunity to experience community, sources have confirmed.
Standing beside a giant fan that wasn’t plugged in, the mayor allegedly unveiled his newest affordability initiative.
“We’re making your electric bill smaller,” he reportedly explained.
“By convincing you not to use the electricity you’re already paying for.”
Residents were less enthusiastic.
“So I pay some of the highest utility bills in the country,” one New Yorker sighed.
“And the solution is… don’t enjoy the air conditioning?”
According to insiders, City Hall briefly considered improving the aging electrical grid before concluding that asking millions of people to become slightly warmer was substantially cheaper.
Officials reportedly rebranded the plan as Equitable Climate Participation.
The brochure encourages residents to embrace “shared perspiration,” “collective humidity,” and “solidarity through discomfort.”
Meanwhile, moving companies reported a surge in customers requesting estimates to places where thermostats are considered appliances instead of political statements.
One exhausted apartment owner summed up the city’s mood.
“I don’t want luxury,” he said.
“I’d just like to use the air conditioner without feeling like I’m betraying the revolution.”
As of press time, City Hall had reportedly announced Phase Two of the energy plan, encouraging subway riders to generate renewable electricity by collectively fanning one another with unpaid parking tickets while waiting for delayed trains.
I have one question for the mayor. Is the thermostat at Gracie Mansion set at 78 degrees? I strongly doubt that!
